Getting a License

What do I need to bring to the DMV in order to take my driving test?
  • NH Driver Education Certificate issued by a licensed NH Driving School if you're under 18.
  • The 40-hour home practice log.
  • Parental/Guardian permission form
  • Bring glasses if you wear them.
  • All driver's licenses issued to you by another state.
  • Two forms of identification: official papers which show your name, address, and date of birth (in most cases, a photo license from another state and a birth certificate or passport is acceptable).
  • A vehicle legally registered and inspected in New Hampshire and in good running condition. The vehicle must be of the proper class for the license you are being tested for.
  • A licensed driver to drive the test vehicle for you to and from the testing site. That person should remain at the test site until the road test has been completed. (If another state appropriately licenses you, you may drive yourself to the testing site.)
  • ​The license fee.

Parent Meeting

Are parent meetings mandatory?

Yes. NH law on driver education requires that a parent or guardian must attend a parent meeting for their child to complete the program.

Do I need to attend the parent meeting again for each child in driver ed?

If you've attended a parent meeting in the last two years, you do not need to attend another one.

Behind-the-Wheel Lessons

How many driving hour lessons may I drive in a day or a week?

You can take no more than one driving lesson per day and two lessons per week.

Can I cancel a driving lesson after I schedule it?

To cancel a driving hour, you must log in to your student account and reschedule at least seven hours before the lesson, or a $50. no show fee will be assessed.

What if I have to miss a class?

Students can miss no more than two classes with good reason, or they will be dropped from the program without a refund. Accepted absences include death in the family, sickness, or injury. All absences must be documented by a parent or doctor's note and given to the instructor. Missed classes will need to be made up to successfully complete the course.

How do I make up a missed class?

Contact your classroom instructor for makeup work.

What if I lose my textbook?

There is a $30 fee for a lost textbook. However, if you find and return the textbook, we will refund the $30.

What are the passing grades on exams?

To pass the quizzes you must get 70% correct. For the final exam, you must get 80% correct. If you fail, you may re-take them.

At what age can I enroll in driver educataion?

You must be 16 years old before the last scheduled class.

 

What forms of identification are required in order to start driver ed?

To start driver education, you will need to provide a birth certificate, passport, or school ID.

What is the refund policy?

An enrollee can drop the class up to one day before the class starts. Refunds will be issued in 30 days, minus a $40 processing fee. After the day of the first class, there are no refunds.
